چکیده
A 39-year-old man with no known cardiovascular risk factors was hospitalized for chest pain radiating to the side. Type A aortic dissection was diagnosed by transthoracic echocardiography and computed tomography (CT). which the ascending aorta was replaced with a valved tube graft (Bentall-Bono procedure). The patient had a phenotype typical of Marfan disease: height of 190 cm, long limbs, scoliosis and dural ectasia.

Losartan reduces aortic dilatation rate in adults with Marfan syndrome: a randomized controlled trial.
AIM Patients with Marfan syndrome have an increased risk of life-threatening aortic complications, mostly preceded by aortic dilatation. Treatment with losartan, an angiotensin-II receptor-1 blocker, may reduce aortic dilatation rate in Marfan patients. METHODS AND RESULTS In this multicentre, open-label, randomized controlled trial with blinded assessments, we compared losartan treatment wit...

متن کاملExternal aortic root support for Marfan syndrome: early clinical results in the first 20 recipients with a bespoke implant.
OBJECTIVES Fatal aortic dissection occurs at young age in Marfan syndrome. Prevention relies on elective replacement of the aortic root. The placement of an external aortic root support, tailored to the anatomy of the individual patient has been proposed as a feasible alternative. DESIGN, SETTING AND MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: External aortic root support was offered to patients with Marfan syndrom...
متن کاملLate complications and distal growth rates of Marfan aortas after proximal aortic repair.
OBJECTIVES Conflicting results have been reported on late aortic growth and complication rates of the descending thoracic aorta in patients with Marfan syndrome (MFS) after proximal aortic surgery. METHODS Of 198 Marfan patients followed up regularly, 121 (43% David-I, 7% David-II, 11% supracoronary replacement, 52% mechanical conduit, 8% arch replacement) were analysed after proximal aortic ...
متن کاملNon-contrast MR angiography at 1.5 Tesla for aortic monitoring in Marfan patients after aortic root surgery
BACKGROUND Contrast-enhanced cardiovascular magnetic resonance angiography (CE-CMRA) is the established imaging modality for patients with Marfan syndrome requiring life-long annual aortic imaging before and after aortic root replacement. Contrast-free CMRA techniques avoiding side-effects of contrast media are highly desirable for serial imaging but have not been evaluated in the postoperative...
